Milestones
The company’s history, rich in tradition, dates back to 1956. Since then, the engineering office founded by electrical engineer Friedrich Horst Papenmeier has enjoyed impressive success in the field of applied electrical engineering.
1956
Founded as an engineering office
For Friedrich Horst Papenmeier, good licensing income from an invention and the determination to realize new ideas in his own company are the starting capital for the program: consulting in the field of applied electrical engineering.
BRAILLEX stored information and displayed it in Braille on the electronic Braille display. Information could be entered via the keyboard and saved under a keyword. The information could be called up again later using this keyword. BRAILLEX became very popular. Users preferred BRAILLEX mainly because it was easy to use and displayed information quickly.

1958
The first sight glass
In 1958, the Papenmeier engineering office developed the first sight glass based on the challenges posed. This patented product is the cornerstone of our Lumiglas division.

1959
The construction of the control system in 1959 lays the foundation for further development.

1960
Patent grant „Lumiglas®-Leuchte“
A special luminaire with significant technical and economic advantages lays the foundation for the “Lumiglas” specialist area. The patent for a Lumiglas luminaire is granted in 1960.

April 1965
The number of employees increases, but the working atmosphere is already as good as it is today.

Summer 1966
New building on Hörder Strasse
In 1966, the original company building finally became too small for the number of employees and production. For this reason, Papenmeier built the first of its current two company buildings on Hörder Strasse. Here you can see pictures of the different construction phases of this building.

1975
BRAILLEX
BRAILLEX®, the development of a storage system for Braille and speech—a world first—reaches completion and sets the course for the “RehaTechnik” product division.

1985
The next generation moves in
Günther Papenmeier, eldest son of the company founder, takes over management duties after years of successful work in various industrial companies. The picture shows him in 2015 on the occasion of being awarded the Silver Badge of Honor by the electrical trade.

1991
Product area number three
Establishment of the “Electronics” product division with operations in the Contract Electronics Manufacturing (CEM) market.
1993
Change instead of stagnation
Armin Papenmeier, the youngest son of the Papenmeier family, joins the family business. Here you can see him in 2013 at the Hanover Trade Fair, which Papenmeier attends every year.

Hightech made in Schwerte
Hannover Messe, Medica – these leading trade fairs provide a major stage for innovations from North Rhine-Westphalia. On approximately 600 square meters of exhibition space, F.H. Papenmeier GmbH & Co. KG presents itself alongside other exhibitors from the fields of academia, research, industry, and healthcare at the NRW joint state stand under the motto “Industry 4.0.”With its two product groups “Inclusive Workplaces” and “Process Monitoring,” Papenmeier plays an active role in the value chain at the NRW joint stand, showcasing its products live to an interested professional audience.

Certified IT accessibility
Papenmeier presented the newly founded Papenmeier Consulting division at CeBIT in the week from March 14 – 18, 2016.
October 2016
60 years of F.H. Papenmeier GmbH & Co. KG
Papenmeier celebrates its 60th anniversary and prepares for future challenges.

December 2019
Armin Papenmeier is voted Entrepreneur of the Year.
The official award ceremony took place on February 7, 2020 at the Rohrmeisterei in Schwerte.
