70 years of Papenmeier – Innovation from Schwerte since 1956

On 1 October 2026, we will be celebrating our 70th anniversary. What began in 1956 as an engineering consultancy specialising in applied electrical engineering is now an owner-managed family business with an international focus and market-leading products. Founded by electrical engineer Friedrich Horst Papenmeier, the company is characterised by a spirit of invention and a commitment to developing technology that truly helps people and businesses move forward.

From an engineering firm to a technology company

An idea led to patents, and patents led to product ranges: the first Papenmeier sight glass was developed in 1958, followed in 1975 by BRAILLEX®, a world first for blind people. Electronics manufacturing was added in 1991, and IT accessibility consultancy in 2016. To this day, we continue to develop and manufacture at our Schwerte site – high-tech made in Schwerte.

Our anniversary belongs to everyone who has journeyed with us along this path: our customers, partners, staff and the Papenmeier family. We are celebrating 70 years and will continue to work on solutions for the coming decades.

With BRAILLEX® Braille displays and electronic aids, we have been enabling blind and severely visually impaired people to work, learn and communicate independently for more than 50 years.

Development and production of electronic devices and printed circuit boards as a Contract Electronics Manufacturer (CEM) – drawing on the expertise gained from decades of in-house product development.
