Product Line

For more than 30 years, Papenmeier has been the specialist company for refreshable Braille. BRAILLEX, the first device in the world featuring a refreshable Braille display, was introduced in 1975. Since that time, access to information with Braille has been a high priority at Papenmeier.

BRAILLEX® EL (Efficiency Line) products

All of our current Braille displays and note taking devices belong to the family of the BRAILLEX® EL (Efficiency Line) products, with the patented Easy Access Bar.

They offer optimum ergonomics for Braille readers. The joystick-like Easy Access Bar is a long key situated on the front side of the device, all along the Braille display. It offers 8 commands to move the display up and down, back and forth in a very fast and intuitive way, without you ever taking your reading hands off the Braille display, just using your thumb. Or you enter PC functions like up and down, left and right arrows, Tab, Shift-Tab, Enter, Escape - most of the keystrokes required to navigate through a dialog box.

With traditional Braille displays, you typically have to take your hands off the display when you navigate around the screen or interact with the computer. With the Easy Access Bar, you execute the commands while you read, from any place on the Braille display. This means less waving around with your hands, more comfort, higher speed. This is why we call the line of product the BRAILLEX® Efficiency Line.

All BRAILLEX® EL are compatible With all major screen reader programs, including Jaws for Windows Hal/Supernova, and Window-Eyes. Screen readers for Linux are also available.

Papenmeier offers a complete range of Braille access products, from large desktop computer Braille displays up to small, portable devices.
