Tradition and innovation
1956- Electrical Engineer F. Horst Papenmeier founded an engineering design office. Substantial licence fee income from his inventions and his determination in managing the development of new ideas from within his own firm provided the startup capital for the consulting programme covering applied electrical technology.
- 1957
- Instrumentation and Control Techniques as specialist field: Design and Development of process controls and instrumentation, incl. vacuum drum dryers for granules.
- 1960
Patent for »Lumiglas® - luminaire«: an inspection glass luminaire with unique features and practical advantages lays the foundation stone for the Lumiglas® division.- 1975
- BRAILLEX®, development of a storage and retrieval system for Braille and speech for the blind – a world first – sets the course for Reha division. The BRAILLEX® products are produced – till today – in the Electronics division.
- 1979
- Louis Braille Prize awarded for BRAILLEX®.
- 1984
- Prize for innovative advancement awarded by University of Bochum for the research project »Compact Readout« unit for the blind and seriously sight impaired.
1985- Transfer Technology special prize awarded by Ministry for Research and Technology for work done with Research Centre Jülich.
Günther Papenmeier, eldest son of founder, joins board after many years of successful experience in various industrial companies. - 1991
- Foundation of the Electronics division with activities in the CEM-market.
1992- Leading joint ventures in various EU research projects. Close cooperation with international seats of learning and leading experts.
- 1993
- Company receives EN ISO 9001 QA approval certification from RW TÜV.
- 1996
Renewal of Certification to EN ISO 9001 with supplementary certificate covering ’Ex’ range to guidelines 94/9/EG (ATEX100) by DMT.- 1997
- Reorganisation of Instrumentation and Control division into Specialist Production Control Systems under direction of Armin Papenmeier. Emphasis on resolution of turnkey projects, from project study through design to finished plant and logistics.
- 1998
The stainless steel luminaire »Lumistar ME« obtains the IF-Design-Award.- 1999
- Under the trademark »BRAILLEX EL« the new Braillex display enter the market: patented and with the Easy-Access-Bar.
- 2001
- All Papenmeier Lumiglas-products are in accordance to the new ATEX-regulations.
- 2003
- Armin Papenmeier takes over Electronics Division
- 2005
- The Company celebrates its 50th anniversary

- Lumiglas luminaires now also on offer with LED technology

- Papenmeier gets UL certification

- Participation in international, incl. EU-sponsored, research projects such as TEDUB
